Yonah Schimmel’s Knish Bakery, situated at 137 East Houston Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, is a renowned establishment known for its knishes since its inception in 1910. Originally, a Romanian rabbi named Yonah embarked on his culinary journey with his wife in Coney Island back in 1890, where they introduced the masses to their delectable potato and kasha dumplings, famously known as knishes.
